Box Office: PHP 1,916,008
                     $158,431,237 (WW)

"The result is refreshing on every level, a piece of nostalgia so old it's new again, and a breather from Hollywood's 3-D digital onslaught in favor of fur and fuzz."
David Germain, The Boston Globe

11. The Amazing Spider-Man

Director: Marc Webb
Cast: Andrew Garfield / Emma Stone / Rhys Ifans / Denis Leary
Campbell Scott / Irrfan Khan / Martin Sheen / Sally Field

Release Date: 29 June 2012
Box Office: PHP 339,647,568
                     $752,216,557 (WW)

"Directed with emotional depth and plenty of comedic touches by Marc Webb (no pun intended), this somewhat darker depiction of your friendly neighborhood superhero inserts a touching portrait of adolescent angst into an otherwise predictable dose of CGI-fueled action."
Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter

10. Hugo

Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Asa Butterfield / Ben Kingsley / Chloë Grace Moretz
Sacha Baron Cohen / Helen McCrory / Richard Griffiths

Release Date: 15 February 2012
Box Office: PHP 4,407,536
                     $185,770,160 (WW)

"Hugo is unlike any other film Martin Scorsese has ever made, and yet possibly the closest to his heart: a big-budget, family epic in 3D, and in some ways, a mirror of his own life. We feel a great artist has been given command of the tools and resources he needs to make a movie about - movies."
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

9. Give Up Tomorrow

Director: Michael Collins
Cast: Paco Larrañaga / Manuel Larrañaga / Margot Larrañaga
Release Date: 03 October 2012

"The Philippines has a fine tradition of documentary filmmaking, and
Give Up Tomorrow is a great addition. It and its ilk offer something that many of our movies seem ill equipped to deliver these days. It offers the truth, as painful and sad as it can be."
Philbert Ortiz Dy, ClickTheCity.com

8. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Director: Stephen Chbosky
Cast: Logan Lerman / Emma Watson / Ezra Miller
Distributor: Summit Entertainment
Release Date: 26 September 2012
Box Office: PHP 13,480,339
                     $28,467,502 (WW)

"Chbosky does have a slight advantage over other novelists-turned-directors in that he was trained as a screenwriter and did direct a little-seen indie feature 17 years ago. But even so, Perks seems like the work of a much more experienced director, maintaining fidelity to the source material without sacrificing any cinematic qualities."
Ian Buckwalter, The Atlantic

7. Six Degrees Of Separation From Lilia Cuntapay

Director: Antoinette Jadaone
Cast: Lilia Cuntapay
Distributor: Cinema One / Star Cinema
Release Date: 31 October 2012

"Beyond the fact that it’s funny and smart and well made, I feel that it is representative of everything that I dream of for the new Filipino cinema. It recognizes the past while still moving towards the future, telling stories in a form that resonates with the national psyche."
Philbert Ortiz Dy, ClickTheCity.com

6. Looper

Director: Rian Johnson
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt / Bruce Willis / Emily Blunt
Paul Dano / Noah Segan / Piper Perabo / Jeff Daniels

Release Date: 17 October 2012
Box Office: PHP 18,512,888
                     $166,397,470 (WW)

"Looper is way inventive but it wears its creativity lightly, like it's no big deal. This is a highflying, super-stylish science-fiction thriller that brings a fresh approach to mind-bending genre material. We're not always sure where this time-travel film is going, but we wouldn't dream of abandoning the ride."
Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

5. Wreck-It Ralph

Director: Rich Moore
Cast: John C. Reilly / Sarah Silverman / Jack McBrayer
          Jane Lynch
Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures
Release Date: 01 November 2012
Box Office: PHP 45,703,795
                     $275,855,000 (WW)

"With plenty to appeal to boys and girls, old and young, Walt Disney Animation Studios has a high-scoring hit on its hands in this brilliantly conceived, gorgeously executed toon, earning bonus points for backing nostalgia with genuine emotion."
Peter Debruge, Variety

4. Skyfall

Director: Sam Mendes
Cast: Daniel Craig / Javier Bardem / Ralph Fiennes
Naomie Harris / Bérénice Marlohe / Albert Finney
          Judi Dench
Distributor: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer / Columbia Pictures
Release Date: 31 October 2012
Box Office: PHP 150,354,023
                     $1,000,200,000 (WW)

"Skyfall is pretty much all you could want from a 21st Century Bond: cool but not camp, respectful of tradition but up to the moment, serious in its thrills and relatively complex in its characters but with the sense of fun that hasn't always been evident lately."
Kim Newman, Empire

3. Argo

Director: Ben Affleck
Cast: Ben Affleck / Bryan Cranston / Alan Arkin
          John Goodman
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Release Date: 17 October 2012
Box Office: PHP 14,774,615
                     $164,534,000 (WW)

"The best compliment I can pay to the film is that it feels like a movie from an earlier era - less frenetic, less showy, more focused on narrative than sensation."
Peter Suderman, The Washington Times

2. The Avengers

Director: Joss Whedon
Cast: Robert Downey, Jr. / Chris Evans / Mark Ruffalo
Chris Hemsworth / Scarlett Johansson / Jeremy Renner
Tom Hiddleston / Clark Gregg / Cobie Smulders
Stellan Skarsgård / Samuel L. Jackson
Distributor: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Release Date: 25 April 2012
Box Office: PHP 601,105,508
                      $1,511,757,910 (WW)

"It's also the blockbuster I saw in my head when I imagined a movie that brought together the idols of the Marvel world in one shiny, stupendously exciting package. It's Transformers with a brain, a heart and a working sense of humor."
Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

1. The Dark Knight Rises

Director: Christopher Nolan
Cast: Christian Bale
         Michael Caine
         Gary Oldman
         Anne Hathaway
         Tom Hardy
         Marion Cotillard
         Joseph Gordon-Levitt
         Morgan Freeman
Distributor: Warner Bros. Pictures
Release Date: 19 July 2012
Box Office: PHP 219,601,972
                   $1,081,041,287 (WW)

"Nolan’s film is a reminder that superheroes aren’t merely a frivolous distraction, or even a wish-fulfillment fantasy, but an embodiment of our best selves - or at least what we want our best selves to be. A cinematic, cultural and personal triumph, The Dark Knight Rises is emotionally inspiring, aesthetically significant and critically important - as a mirror of both sober reflection and resilient hope."
Todd Gilchrist, The Playlist
